After Five Bar and Grill

Located in an unremarkable building on Dartmouth Street, the After Five is a spacious, unpretentious and comfortable bar. Mr. Draft was fairly impressed with the variety of beers-on-tap that went well beyond the usual macro-brew offerings, prevalent in most local bars. The young man behind the bar fumbled a bit with mixed drinks and questions, but the Barflies give 'im a free pass as he confessed right away to being a novice barkeep. The walls of the After Five are painted a pale green, similar to the hue of pistachio ice cream, and that seems odd for a bar. And those walls have movie posters festooned upon them. But the decor is quite secondary. The beer was good, the staff was amiable, the crowd was pleasant, and the grapefruit juice so necessary to Mr. Greyhound's happiness was not in stock. (Once again, cranberry juice was offered and Mr. Cape Codd--- er, Mr. Greyhound relented.) The Barflies ordered and thoroughly enjoyed some pub-style comfort food, including buffalo wings and a platter of French fries, topped with melted cheese. The After Five, if it is open Before Five, even seems like it might not be a bad Saturday lunchtime place, one which a Barfly might consider bringing his wife and offspring to sometime. Once the kid behind the bar is up to speed, this place could rate an 8. For now- it's a 7...with promise. (Roll Call: Mr. Draft, Mr. Mix, Mr. Merlot. Mr. Cork, Mr. Greyhound)

I hope that someone can make a go of this location finally. We need a decent bar in the Dartmouth St - Allen area. The interior is nice, the food wasn't all that bad and draft selection was great for NB....

This place will never make a go of it because it's in a bad area, no parking and lots of drug activity going on. We've been trying to clean this place up for years. Watch yourself if your leaving the place after midnight especially if you have to walk a ways to get to your car. In the past there were quite a few fights inside and out. It's been peaceful around here without a bar.My neighbors were happy this place has been closed for awhile. Not looking forward to After Five opening again. How do I know all these problem exist? I'm one of the homeowners in the neighborhood.

So they changed the name of the place from After Five to The Black Watch Pub. BIG DEAL. That's about all that's changed. The new management doesn't know squat about how to run a business. Just knows how to screw people (not in a sexual content) to get to where they want to go. They'll let you believe that they're really cool folks but they sure know how to put a good front on. Your better off spending your hard earned dollars to a place that really deserves it. The word is out in New Bedford and all over the South Coast region to BOYCOTT the BLACK WATCH PUB. They'll get what they deserve which is no customers.

Waz up with this new bar dat used to be after 7 or waz it 6, 5, 4, 3 2 or 1? Could never figure out wat time of da day they were open. So now we get this balck watch pub to replace it and wat is dare game? Scot bar? Should have called it "the semetary pub" as its alwayz dead. In fact theirs more goin on down the street at the semetary then at the white watch pub.

Wow! Such hateful comments! Give the new management a chance. After losing his young son to cancer a few years ago, Andy, and his family are working hard at this to improve the place and be a good neighbor. It's true he has work ahead of him, but let's all welcome him and give him a chance. The interior of the pub is very nice, the food is good, and the draft selection is better than most neighborhood pubs you'll find. The Black Watch Pub is definately an improvement!
